Disclaimer: The Bible is full of YOUR own Easter Eggs so I encourage you to read his Word first before reading the blogs. As a reminder, this is my interpretation as I walk with God, it’s okay to have your own interpretation, that’s how you become intimate with Jesus. It’s entirely your free will to believe or not to believe, like or dislike, agree or disagree. I respect you either way and would appreciate the same respect. Discernment with every post. I am very much overjoyed having limited commentary from others as I want to see and hear what our LORD wants me to see or hear, he’s teaching me to become a better human for the world. Yay!
As I continue to read chapter 2 of Numbers, I am reminded that names have meaning, for example, Audrey means ‘Noble Strength’. What’s the meaning of your name? If you care to share, leave it in the comments! Numbers 2:3-9 is the Lord explaining to Moses and Aaron the organization of the camps, the tribes, of Israel and it reads like this:
3 Judah’s military divisions will camp on the east side toward the sunrise under their banner. The leader of the descendants of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab. 4 His military division numbers 74,600. 5 The tribe of Issachar will camp next to it. The leader of the Issacharites is Nethanel son of Zuar. 6 His military division numbers 54,400. 7 The tribe of Zebulun will be next. The leader of the Zebulunites is Eliab son of Helon. 8 His military division numbers 57,400. 9 The total number in their military divisions who belong to Judah’s encampment is 186,400; they will move out first.
Why would this be in the Bible? I personally don’t care about military arrangements or how a bunch of ancient people organized their camps. No child wants to read about this, where is the good stuff, the drama?! όχι Δράμα? Well if names have meaning, I wonder what this camp represents for Judah. Chapter 1 was super repetitive with the names so I can’t help but SEE this as I HEAR it when I read his Word out loud. Let’s break down each name in Hebrew:
Judah = Thanksgiving or Praise
Nahshon = Foretells / Initiates
Amminadab = My People are Willing / My Kinsmen are Noble / Generous
Issachar = His Reward will Come
Nethanel = God has Given
Zuar = Littleness; Small
Zebulun = Prince to Dwell of Honor
Eliab = God is my Father
Helon = Window; Grief
Altogether now: ‘Thanksgiving / Praise foretells, initiates my people are willing / my kinsmen are noble, generous. His reward will come, God has given littleness or small Prince to dwell of honor. God is my Father's window; grief.’
What do you think he’s trying to say? Is there anything to this? At this rate, it will take me years to read the Bible! Is he describing the camp of Judah? Does this statement ring true for you like it does for me?
I personally have been lacking in the praise department of my God since I chose to leave the church and obsess over my own success. I left little room for his honor to dwell within me. I can see the window to his grief and its heartbreaking. I love our YHWH with all my heart, I don’t want to put him in a box anymore hence this very blog. Everything I do, I do it for you! I might serenade him with some Bryan Adams later.
If names have meaning, I bet the numbers in Numbers have meaning too. I looked up the pages that these military divisions land on and wrote a word as to what the passage meant to me. What page does it land on in your Bible? Is it relevant to you with what you’re going through? I think that’s the point is that YOU connect with Jesus. What word do you associate with the passage? How beautiful this is on a sunny Tuesday morning to see our Lord communicate in a way that I felt was lost my entire life. I’m reminded of the Midnight Deliverance in Acts 16:25-34 for multiple reasons, take a peak. Doesn't it seem that between the ages of 25 and 34 we grow into a maturity of self discovery? A new found purpose, or self-esteem, or a joy for life that was just missing, or lost in our youth, or for myself... the twenties. I was a club rat so I found joy in superficial highs. How alive today to find a natural, sustainable, healthy, consistent clarity, of love and acceptance through Jesus. I feel like Scarlet Johansson’s character in Lucy!
